For most of us, coffee is our traditional pick me up to get us out of that post-lunch slump. However, while caffeine can improve memory, decrease fatigue, and improve your mental functioning, too much of it can make it harder for you to make decisions, interpret information, and can even have some negative effects on your physical health.

So, if you’re looking for an admin-friendly way to get your afternoon boost without resorting to caffeine, here are some ideas.

How to Get Your Afternoon Boost Without Coffee?

Listen to Music

Listening to music engages the same part of the brain that deals with learning and data processing. Listening to music can help you focus you mind and helps to combat drowsiness.

Certain types of music also help when performing creative tasks, although its best to find music that doesn’t have any lyrics as your brain tends to latch on to spoken words and it can end up being more of a distraction than a benefit.

Take a Nap

Short naps, no shooter than 20 minutes and no longer than an hour, have been proven to assist in aiding concentration and combatting fatigue. Try to think of it as a short break for your brain to process information.

Use Aromatherapy

Certain aromas have a focusing effect on people and are a simple way of using a novel stimulus to keep your brain working. You body quickly becomes used to aromas, however, so find yourself a few that work for your and switch between them on a regular basis.

Get Some Exercise

One of the best ways to get over the afternoon slump is to find the time for a little physical exercise. You don’t have to have a full session in the gym, you just need around 10 minutes of light physical exercise to bring your heart rate up and get your blood pumping.

Something as simple as a few minutes of light jogging on the spot or a brisk walk between buildings can be enough to give you your energy back.

Get Some Natural Light

Constant exposure to indoor lighting conditions can have a negative effect on both your mood and your ability to concentrate. Try to make some time to get out into the sunlight, or, if your schedule doesn’t allow for that, invest in a daylight lamp to make sure you are getting the requisite amount of natural light.
