What Is a Corporate Paralegal?  

Simply put, a corporate paralegal works for a corporation, that is to say, a large company or group of companies authorized to act as a single entity and recognized as such in law, and applies their understanding of the law to assist that corporation in a legal sense, most commonly in the areas of tax and liability law. 

A corporate paralegal doesn’t have to work directly for a corporation, but might work for a legal firm hired to support a corporation.

Where Do Corporate Paralegals Work?

Generally, corporate paralegal work for the in-house legal team of larger corporations. They may also work for government agencies who are tasked with working with or overseeing, private corporations, such as the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the US Patent Trademark Office. 

What Do Corporate Paralegals Do?

As a general rule, a corporate paralegal works with documents like limited liability companies and partnerships, meeting notices, license applications, stock certificates, merger and dissolution agreements, and amendments. 

In addition, corporate paralegals frequently work with the legal aspects of corporate transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, contract review and initial public offerings depending on where they work.
