How to become a pharmacy technician

The first step to becoming a pharmacy technician is to complete a formal education program. Many community colleges and technical schools offer pharmacy technician programs that can be completed in as little as one year.

Here at NCC, our pharmacy technician program can be completed in nine months. During your time in the program, you will take courses such as pharmacology, medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology.

You will also gain practical experience through externships at local pharmacies. Upon completion of the program, you will be prepared to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification

Once you have completed your education, you will need to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). This exam is administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Once you have passed the PTCE, you will be officially certified and able to begin working as a pharmacy technician!
