LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Northwest Career College (NCC) is now enrolling students for the inaugural cohort of its new Mammography Continuing Education course, beginning August 17. Designed for licensed radiologic technologists, the 12-week hybrid program provides the education and supervised clinical experience required to pursue post-primary certification in mammography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

As breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting women, skilled mammography professionals play a critical role in early detection and diagnosis. Through this new continuing education offering, Northwest Career College aims to strengthen Nevada's healthcare workforce by providing practicing radiologic technologists with a pathway to expand their expertise and advance into the specialized field of breast imaging.

The program combines six weeks of didactic instruction with six weeks of supervised clinical experience, allowing students to complete 36 ARRT Category A continuing education credits and a minimum of 150 supervised clinical hours while maintaining their current employment. Offered in a hybrid format, the course features one evening of on-campus instruction each week, along with online coursework and hands-on laboratory training, before students transition to clinical rotations at approved mammography sites.

Students will receive instruction aligned with ARRT certification requirements, covering topics including mammography positioning, patient care, breast anatomy and pathology, digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography), image evaluation, quality assurance, and advanced breast imaging procedures. The curriculum also incorporates supervised clinical experience to help students complete the documented procedures required for ARRT post-primary certification.

One of the program's distinguishing features is instruction from Linda Lippacher, ARRT (R)(M), a mammography educator with more than 40 years of professional experience and more than three decades of teaching experience. Lippacher was among the earliest technologists to earn ARRT mammography certification and has contributed to breast cancer research, higher education, and radiologic technology publications throughout her career.

"Access to timely mammography care starts with having trained technologists to provide it," said David Bolshazy, M.Ed., R.T.(R)(ARRT), Radiography Program Chair at Northwest Career College. "Too often, delays in breast cancer screening come down to workforce capacity, not a lack of patient demand. This course is our way of helping meet that need by creating a pathway for registered radiologic technologists throughout Southern Nevada to gain the specialized skills needed to support earlier breast cancer detection. When we invest in training more qualified mammography technologists, we're investing directly in better patient outcomes."

In addition to classroom instruction, students will gain hands-on experience using industry-standard mammography equipment before completing supervised clinical education at approved imaging facilities, helping prepare them for certification and careers supporting breast cancer screening and diagnostic imaging.

Enrollment for the inaugural cohort is now open. Classes begin August 17, 2026.
