In your first month, you’ll receive a foundational introduction to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration industry. You will explore industry pathways, technician responsibilities, basic system types, and the core concepts that support the operation of heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment.
In month 2, you will gain the skills needed to understand, measure, and apply electrical concepts in real-world HVAC system operation and troubleshooting.
In month 3, you’ll learn the principles of airflow and the operation of air-conditioning systems used in both residential and commercial HVAC applications. You will gain an understanding of how air-conditioning systems are designed, installed, operated, and evaluated for proper performance.
In month 4, you’ll learn the operation, installation, and troubleshooting of air-conditioning and heat pump systems. You will build your knowledge of electrical and refrigeration systems from earlier sections, and you will develop real-world diagnostic skills.
In month 5, you’ll learn the fundamentals of gas, electric, and oil heating systems used in residential HVACR applications.
In month 6, you’ll learn how refrigerant piping systems are designed, assembled, tested, and installed for HVACR and refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-in units, and split-system refrigeration systems.
In month 7, you’ll learn the essential skills required to diagnose, test, and maintain HVACR systems. You will apply troubleshooting processes, use industry-standard diagnostic tools, and identify common performance issues in heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment.
In month 8, you will transition from classroom instruction to a real-world HVAC field experience. You will start your externship with a partnering HVAC company or facility, applying hands-on skills while working under the supervision of experienced professionals.
Your final month deepens your externship experience. You'll work with less supervision, handle more complex tasks, and prove you're ready for the job. This is where students often make the connections that turn into job offers.
