How Big of A Deal Can A Will And An Estate Really Be

Northwest Career College’s Paralegal Studies Program offers legal courses in specialized areas of law, to include a Wills, Trusts & Estates course; whereby, we discuss various aspects of Probate Law, specifically drafting and reviewing such documents as trusts, wills, and power of attorneys, just to name a few. Students research probate laws and procedure within the Nevada Revised Statutes, as well as the Uniform Probate Code (UPC).

We discuss actual matters in this area of law, in that, students present weekly current events and draft case summaries on such matters as the recently-publicized Busch Estate matter.

Here is a brief update as to what a sizeable estate matter can look like:

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – The six Busch siblings embroiled in a family dispute head to court Tuesday morning as they try to resolve an ownership battle over Grant’s Farm.

A St. Louis Circuit Court probate judge is scheduled to hear the case. Four of the Busch siblings want to separate Grant’s Farm from the family’s real estate holdings. They wanted to sell the 281-acre farm to the Saint Louis Zoo, but the zoo withdrew its bid last month, in part due to the despite.

Billy Busch has said he wants to keep the popular animal attraction in the family and made a counteroffer of his own. Billy made an offer of $26 million, with an additional dollar tacked on just to beat out his siblings.

Billy also offered another $8 million to purchase the Busch Family Estate, located on the farm property.

Paralegal students at Northwest Career College’s Paralegal Studies Program gain first-hand experience of the process while visiting a probate hearing as part of their class field trips and in having an attorney speaking before the class on this such specialized area of law.
