If you’re interested in becoming a pharmacy technician, here are five steps to get your new career started.

Step One: Complete an NCC Course

The first step on your road to a new career as a pharmacy technician is to enroll at NCC. 

After you’ve completed your course, NCC will work with the PTCB to make sure you receive all of the necessary education and training. 

Here at NCC, our pharmacy technician course covers how to prepare medications, how to fill prescriptions, and how to take inventory as well as many other skills you’ll need to become a pharmacy technician.

Step Two: Get Certified by Taking the Pharmacy Technician Exam

Once you complete your coursework at NCC, there is an exam that must be successfully passed in order to become a certified pharmacy technician – The Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). 

Northwest Career College offers review sessions to give you the highest chance of passing the PTCE.

Step Three: Meet State Requirements to Work as a Pharmacy Technician in Your City or County

Depending on what state you are in, you may need other qualifications or certifications in order to work as a pharmacy technician. 

 

For example, in California, you must submit an application to the Board of Pharmacy and pay a fee. You need to do this before beginning work at any pharmacy or drugstore. 

Step Four: Apply for Jobs and Gain Experience Working with Patients

There is an abundance of jobs available nearly everywhere because pharmacists need help running their stores! 

A job as a pharmacist assistant provides great pay along with flexible hours so there are also a lot of people apply for them.
